Who loves a green smoothie?

My favourite way to start the day is with a large green smoothie.

The best part about a green smoothie is that it is so easy to squeeze a huge amount of nutrients into one drink (in my case it is always a ridiculously large drink ha). Breakfast is the most important meal of the day but I have always struggled to stomach eating early, now I find I’m a little lost without my green ‘fix’.

Recently I’ve been experimenting with a range of different ingredients. When I first started I used quite a few different fruits to sweeten the taste but more recently I’ve become accustomed to a much less sweetened flavour.

Below are a few of my favourite ingredients that I use to make an amazing mix. I just throw all my chosen ingredients into my blender or thermomix and voila a yummy nutritious breakfast every time.

First I pick as many different greens as I can usually aiming for 3 different types as a minimum.

Kale
Sprouts
Spinach
Baby spinach
Mint
Cucumber – this adds a refreshing sweet taste

Then I pick a fruit or 2 to sweeten the smoothie. If you need a little more sweetness add some raw honey.

Banana
Berries
Kiwi fruit
Papaya

I then add water or coconut water to create the desired consistency (keep in mind the more water you add the less thick your smoothie will be. My smoothie is usually more of a juice consistency)

I then add superfoods and other ingredients. Again I aim for 3 different ingredients, I have listed some of my favourites below.

Chia seeds
Linseed
Maca powder
Spirulina powder
Chlorella powder
Psyllium husks

If your looking to add protein I sometimes also add a raw egg (I promise you can’t taste the egg) or some nuts.

Blend and enjoy.

Keep in mind you can swap and change the ingredients to suit you.
